About Pokonji Dol Lighthouse
Also known as: Pokonji Dol (Hvar)
Constructed in 1872, the Pokonji Dol lighthouse is situated on a small, uninhabited island approximately four kilometers southeast of Hvar harbor. The structure is a 15-meter tall cylindrical stone tower, topped with a lantern and gallery, which stands at the center of a two-story stone keeper's house. Its light, positioned 20 meters above sea level, emits a white flash every 4 seconds. This lighthouse has been operational since its construction, providing a consistent navigational aid. The tower and its grounds are not open to the public.
Why it matters: The lighthouse guides vessels approaching Hvar harbor from the Adriatic Sea, ensuring safe passage around the island it occupies.
