About Istarske Obala {Porto Zara} Lighthouse
Built in 1880, this cylindrical stone tower stands 6 meters tall on the tip of a peninsula that shelters Zadar's inner harbor. Its green and white horizontal bands and green dome make it a distinctive landmark. The light, mounted atop the dome, emits a single green flash every two seconds, visible for 8.9 nautical miles. The lighthouse complex includes a round, cylindrical stone tower with a metal dome. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself is closed, preserving its operational status. It shares a similar design with the Zadar Breakwater light.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marks the west side of the entrance to Zadar's inner harbor, guiding vessels safely in and out. Its continuous operation since 1880 highlights its long-standing contribution to regional maritime traffic.
