The collision happened at OTB Kandla anchorage in Kutch district, Gujarat. KMAX Emperor and True Mariner struck each other in the outer roads.
According to The Week, KMAX Emperor is Liberian-flagged with IMO number 9477426. The ship carried 85,968 MT of coal loaded at Muara Berau, Indonesia. The report says it began sinking after the impact.
The Coast Guard dispatched ships and aircraft to the scene. Officials also activated a pollution response in case fuel or cargo entered the water.
