On the evening of July 19, Russian cruise missiles struck the bulk carrier MV Golden Leo as it was leaving Odesa with a cargo of corn. Four Indian nationals on board were killed. A fifth was critically injured.
The carrier flew a Guinea-Bissau flag and was owned by Mumbai-based Ocean Grace Shipping. Seventeen crew were on board, from India and Syria. The missiles started a fire. Ukraine's navy called the Golden Leo an unarmed civilian carrier.
India's Ministry of External Affairs condemned the attack and said its mission in Ukraine was helping those affected.
