One seafarer is dead and another is missing after an attack on the oil products tanker Hercules Star at anchorage off Dubai on September 9, 2026.
The Gibraltar-flagged tanker was lying at anchor when it was hit. The UK Maritime Trade Operations described it as listing with possible water ingress following what it called a projectile attack. All other crew members have been accounted for.
Peninsula, the tanker's charterer, confirmed the fatality. "It is with deep sadness and regret that we confirm one fatality," the company said.
The attack came on one of the heaviest days of strikes on commercial shipping in the Persian Gulf since the US-Iran conflict began six months ago. Multiple tankers were targeted in the same 24-hour window across the region, according to The National and Defense News.
