23 Sailors Rescued After Bulk Carrier Collision Near Qeshm Island

A bulk carrier lost her crew north of Qeshm Island on July 13, 2026, after a collision tore open the hull and sent water flooding in.

Bandar Abbas maritime authorities received a distress call that day. The ship had suffered major hull damage in its central section. Water began entering the ship, and the captain ordered all hands to abandon it.

Iranian rescue teams pulled all 23 sailors from the water and brought them to Qeshm Island. None were reported injured.

The cause of the collision is under investigation. The incident occurred near one of the world's busiest shipping corridors, where traffic through the Strait of Hormuz passes the island's northern shore.
