July 22, 2026. President Trump announced on social media that the US will destroy one Iranian bridge or power plant each time Iran attacks a ship in the Strait of Hormuz. The message covered any type of weapon, including missiles, rockets, drones, and any other device.
Iran responded the same day, warning it would strike US-linked infrastructure and energy facilities across the region.
The announcement came amid continuing US strike operations against Iran and a series of recent attacks on ships in and near the strait. Roughly 20 percent of the world's oil passes through Hormuz. Trump's formula ties each future ship attack to a new target inside Iran.
