India summoned Iran's deputy ambassador in New Delhi on July 14, a day after Iranian cruise missiles struck two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and killed an Indian seafarer.
Thirty Indian nationals were among the 46 crew members aboard the two tankers, the MT Al Bahiyah and the MT Mombasa B. One crew member died. Ten others were injured.
The Indian government called for de-escalation and for Iran to ensure safe passage for seafarers through the waterway. New Delhi's Ministry of External Affairs said the summons was in direct protest of the attacks on the two tankers.
