About Vorupør Bagfyr Lighthouse
The Vorupør Bagfyr is a square wooden tower, 9 meters in height, marked with red and white horizontal bands. Constructed in 1894, it was illuminated for the first time in the same year. The light emits an occulting red signal with a 4-second cycle, positioned at a focal height of 30 meters. The tower, with a geographic range of 15.3 nautical miles, has undergone modifications from its initial window design to include a lantern and external ladder. It was repainted in 2023 and has been relocated multiple times to adapt to alterations in the entrance channel.
Why it matters: This structure serves as a navigation aid for fishing boats and other vessels entering the channel at Nørre Vorupør, an area subject to changing conditions. Its repeated relocations highlight its adaptation to the shifting shoreline.
