Anholt Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Anholt Lighthouse
Anholt Lighthouse, a 42-meter cylindrical masonry tower, was built in 1788. Its white structure, topped with a lantern and gallery, stands 40 meters above sea level. The light emits a single white flash every 15 seconds, visible for 17.1 nautical miles. This lighthouse is situated at the eastern end of Anholt island, within a desert region known for its unique plant and animal life. In 2017, a major project restored the tower's brickwork, windows, and doors. Despite ongoing efforts against coastal erosion, including the placement of stone groins, the lighthouse continues its navigational function.
Why it matters: Anholt Lighthouse is essential for guiding ships approaching the Sound and entering the Baltic Sea.
