Albuen Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Albuen Lighthouse
The Albuen Lighthouse is a 13-meter-tall, round cylindrical concrete tower with a lantern and gallery, built in 1958. The lighthouse station originated in 1779, with range lights added in 1884. A prior concrete tower, erected in 1896, was lost to the sea as the sandspit shifted. The current lighthouse has been inactive since 2014. The location is accessible to visitors, but the tower itself is not open.
Why it matters: The Albuen structure served as a navigation aid at the southeastern entrance to the Storebælt, assisting ships navigating an area prone to sandspit movement.
