About Sućuraj {Punta San Giorgio} Lighthouse
Located at the easternmost point of Hvar Island, Croatia, on Rt Sućuraj, the Sućuraj Lighthouse (Punta San Giorgio) is a white stone, cylindrical tower completed in 1912. The stone structure, measuring 14 meters in height, features a lantern and gallery atop a 1-1/2 story stone keeper's dwelling. The light produces a white isophase signal with a 4-second period, providing a geographic range of 11.6 nautical miles. The station was established in 1874, with the present tower erected in 1912.
Why it matters: This light serves as a navigation aid for ferry traffic moving through the narrow passage between Sućuraj on Hvar and Drvenik on the mainland, marking the island's eastern tip. Its distinct architectural style, where the tower integrates with the keeper's house, forms a recognizable visual reference.
