Årøsund Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Årøsund Lighthouse
The round, cylindrical cast iron tower at Årøsund was built in 1905. Standing 10 meters tall with a focal height of 9 meters, it displays a directional light with a geographic range of 10 nautical miles. The light exhibits one white flash, or a white, red, or green sector, every 5 seconds to guide vessels. This prefabricated structure was manufactured by the German firm Pintsch. The site is open to the public, allowing visitors to approach the base of the tower, though interior access is not permitted.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is important for local navigation, providing directional guidance with its white, red, or green sectors. Its construction as a prefabricated cast iron tower represents an early 20th-century engineering approach.
