About Kalundborg Municipality Lighthouses Lighthouse
This cylindrical masonry lighthouse was built in 1844 and first lit in the same year. Its structure, a square tower with a lantern and gallery, stands 15 meters tall and is attached to a keeper's house. The lighthouse was heightened in 1859 to improve its visibility. It is painted white with a red lantern. The light was deactivated in 2008 and the property was transferred to Naturstyrelsen. It is located on the westernmost point of Sjælland, at the end of a peninsula protecting the north side of Kalundborg Fjord.
Why it matters: The lighthouse served as a navigational aid for vessels entering and exiting the Kalundborg Fjord, helping them navigate the protective curve of the peninsula.
