About Drogden Lighthouse
Drogden Lighthouse is a square stone tower, 20 meters tall, built in 1937. It stands on an elliptical stone pier and is part of a structure that includes a keeper's cottage and a lantern with a gallery. The tower is painted with red and white horizontal bands. Its light shows three white, red, or green flashes every 15 seconds, with a geographic range of 12.7 nautical miles. The lighthouse is situated in the southern entrance to the Oresund, about 5 kilometers southeast of Dragør.
Why it matters: A lightship station was first established in 1838 to mark the shoals and channels in this area. The current lighthouse ensures safe passage through the Oresund's complex channels and avoids hazards.
