US Central Command sank the Iranian crude tanker M/T Kylo in the Gulf of Oman on 6 September. Iran had launched ballistic missiles at American warships in the area before the strike, and CENTCOM responded. DVIDS named the Kylo as the third tanker disabled since the naval blockade resumed.
Oman's navy rescued 16 crew the following day. The tanker was SIDR. Iran struck the Saudi-owned tanker in a separate attack, and it had already been hit once: three projectiles struck SIDR near Khasab, Oman on 31 August as it was exiting the strait. The 7 September strike was the second time SIDR came under fire within a week.
