AD Ports routes cargo through Khor Fakkan as Strait of Hormuz stays shut

The Strait of Hormuz has been closed since late February 2026. For AD Ports, that meant finding another route for cargo.

The company deployed 32 ships and 400 trucks. They went through Fujairah Terminals and Khor Fakkan Port, on the Gulf of Oman side, bypassing the strait. Twenty-seven of the ships were container ships, five were bulk cargo.

The effect on UAE container volumes was severe. Traffic through Gulf ports fell 65 percent compared to before the war. AD Ports absorbed part of that shortfall through the rerouting.

In the second quarter of 2026, the company reported a net profit of AED 836 million, about $162.4 million, up 86 percent from the same period a year earlier.
