A cargo ship was struck by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz on the evening of August 14, 2026. No one on board was hurt. The hit came less than 24 hours after two ADNOC-affiliated ships were struck passing through the same channel on August 13.
Fox News reported the UAE described the attacks as unprovoked and pinned responsibility on Iran. The Hill confirmed the ship had been struck, with the crew declared safe. CNN's live coverage on August 15 reported that a UAE-affiliated ship had been attacked the previous evening.
Three ships hit in under two days. The UAE government condemned the attacks and said they violated international maritime law. Iran had not publicly acknowledged the strikes as of early August 15.
The August 14 strike added to more than 50 reports of ship damage in and around the strait since late February, according to reporting cited by The Hill.
