A naval drone struck the LPG ship Gas Lisbon in the Black Sea on the night of July 20-21, roughly 20 nautical miles from Sulina and outside Romanian territorial waters. The ship was sailing from Alexandria, Egypt to the Ukrainian port of Reni with 17 crew on board.
Romanian search-and-rescue services evacuated all 17 crew. Three were injured. The Lower Danube River Administration in Galati confirmed the ship was hit by a naval drone.
Romanian president Nicusor Dan said the ship was most likely targeted as part of Russia's war against Ukraine. The origin of the drone remains under investigation.
