Greek Cargo Ship BLUE CARRIER 2 Abandoned Off Mykonos After Garage Fire

A fire broke out on the Greek RoRo cargo ship BLUE CARRIER 2 north of Mykonos on September 25, 2026. All 29 people on board got off safely.

The ship was carrying 166 trucks and 29 cars when fire started in one of its vehicle garages. That cargo made the response harder. The crew of 28 and the sole passenger, a lorry driver, evacuated without injury. Those who left the ship were taken to Tinos, according to Maritime Executive.

Four Hellenic Coast Guard patrol boats, firefighting boats from Syros, Lavrio and Piraeus, tugboats, and the salvage ship AIGAION PELAGOS all reached the scene. Earlier in September, heat came back inside the abandoned car carrier Min Jiang Kou in Panamanian waters more than a month after its engine room fire. Attica Ferries, the ship's operator, engaged a specialist salvage company, according to Maritime Executive. Firefighting north of Mykonos was still ongoing.
