The passenger ferry Putri Yasmin caught fire in the Lombok Strait on August 12, with 131 people aboard. One died. Rescuers evacuated 172 others, including two Australians.

The ferry was also carrying 44 vehicles and 53 motorcycles. Navy and rescue boats reached the scene and moved survivors to other boats.

This was the second Indonesian passenger ferry fire in ten days, after a fire on the Mutiara Sentosa II in the Java Sea. Indonesian authorities had not confirmed a cause.
