Six Killed as Houthis Strike Cargo Ship Tihamah Twice in Red Sea

The Egyptian-owned cargo ship Tihamah was struck by three Houthi ballistic missiles in the Bab al-Mandeb strait on August 12, killing six people. Yemen's government confirmed the deaths as the first on a commercial ship since the US-Israel war on Iran began in February.

Four crew members died in the initial attack, which started a fire aboard the Tihamah. The ship was carrying food. While rescue teams worked to get survivors off, the Houthis struck a second time. Two rescuers were killed in that follow-up strike. Ten people were wounded.

Three of the dead crew were Pakistani nationals; the fourth was Indonesian. A Houthi-aligned media outlet said the group targeted a ship carrying Saudi military equipment. Yemen's government disputed that account.
