An unmanned cargo ship was hit by multiple projectiles and declared a constructive total loss on August 17, about 40 nautical miles southeast of Al Mokha, Yemen. UK Maritime Trade Operations confirmed the strike around 1100 UTC and issued a caution advisory for all shipping in the area. No crew were aboard.
The attack adds to a run of incidents in the southern Red Sea that began after Houthi forces announced a blockade of Saudi-linked shipping on July 20. Traffic through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait has dropped since. Al Mokha port has been closed to commercial shipping after more than 25 missile impacts on its facilities.
