Around 3:00 a.m. on September 2, two Turkish-flagged cargo ships struck each other in the Marmara Sea, roughly 18 nautical miles south of Silivri. The Tugberk Imamoglu had left Iskenderun bound for Karadeniz Eregli. It ran into the Alsu, which was making the Kocaeli-to-Aliaga run.
Contact with the Tugberk Imamoglu and all 10 of its crew was lost after the impact. The Alsu came through without damage.
The Turkish Coast Guard and a helicopter reached the area to search. No crew members had been located as of the initial reports.
