A Tanzania-flagged ship was stopped in Riau Islands waters on August 17, 2026. Indonesian authorities found 2.6 tonnes of liquid methamphetamine aboard, hidden in drums and water tanks.

The ship was MV Ocean Porter. A joint team from Indonesia's National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Customs and Excise, and the Riau Islands Regional Police ran the boarding. BNN said the narcotics were intended to be sold as vape liquid.

Inspectors also found more than 1.5 million untaxed cigarettes packed in a 40-foot container on the same ship. The crew were detained.
