A tanker was struck by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz on 1 October 2026, starting a fire on board. UKMTO logged the attack as Incident 147-26 and reported the tanker underway after the crew brought the fire under control. All crew were safe.

The strike happened at approximately 1750 UTC. UKMTO did not immediately name the tanker or disclose its flag state under its standard reporting protocol.

The attack follows a run of incidents near the strait over the preceding week. Kuwait summoned Iran's envoy after two tankers were hit at Hormuz just 24 hours before this latest strike. Earlier in September, three ships including the Cape Dao were struck off Oman near the strait.

MarineRadar data shows elevated traffic through the corridor: the UAE coastal zone adjacent to the strait logged more than 190 unique devices in the 48 hours before the attack, and Iranian-controlled waters around Qeshm Island recorded over 120.
