Qatar Fully Reopens Maritime Navigation After US-Iran Tensions

Qatar reopened all of its maritime waters to navigation on July 26, ending restrictions that had been in place since the US-Iran conflict escalated. The announcement came from the Qatar News Agency and applied to all vessel types.

Qatar had closed its waters entirely during the height of the tensions. On July 5, authorities partially reopened a 7-nautical-mile coastal corridor, letting limited traffic resume along the shore while keeping outer waters off limits.

The full lifting on July 26 came on the same day US and Iranian forces held their fire for a second straight day, with ceasefire negotiations described as advancing. Qatar sits at the head of the Persian Gulf and its shipping lanes are central to global LNG supply. Resuming full navigation restored access to a corridor that handles some of the heaviest energy shipping volumes in the region.
