Male, Maldives. Maldives State Shipping's general cargo vessel MSS Graphene was last reported near India's coast in mid-July, with tracking platforms recording a destination of Male and an estimated arrival of October 8. From the Indian coast, the crossing to Male takes two to three days at normal speed.

No statement from MSS explaining the extended timeline has been published.

The gap has drawn attention from Maldivians checking the vessel on public tracking sites. Searches for MSS Graphene rose sharply in the last week of July.

The delayed ETA comes as MSS is dealing with disruptions across the supply routes the Maldives depends on. MSS Managing Director Ahmed Shareef confirmed the company has faced difficulties in cargo transport, citing changes to global shipping routes. The key transshipment ports the Maldives relies on -- Colombo in Sri Lanka and Singapore -- have experienced congestion and delays as cargo volumes shifted following closures in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz. Goods bound for Male have been held at both ports, with freight costs rising.

On July 19, MSS announced it had been appointed local agent for Evergreen Line in the Maldives, adding the Taiwanese carrier to existing partnerships with Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk. MSS said the agreement was intended to improve access to cargo routing from China and ease logistics pressure at Male's port. The announcement was attended by the Minister of State for Economic Development, Transport and Trade.

Maldives imports nearly all of its consumer goods and construction materials by sea. Disruptions at regional hub ports move quickly through the local supply chain.
