An oil tanker exploded in the Strait of Hormuz on July 26. It had hit a naval mine. The Jerusalem Post and WION News both reported the blast, citing Iranian state-linked sources. Iran's Tasnim and Mehr news agencies said the tanker had left the lane Tehran designates for commercial traffic in the waterway before it struck the mine. No name or flag had been released in initial reports, and no official casualty count was issued.
The explosion follows weeks of conflict in the region. US strikes on Iranian military sites have continued on multiple consecutive nights, and Iran has warned tankers that leaving the designated corridor puts them at risk.
