Drone Strikes Two Gas Ships at Egypt’s Damietta Port

The fire was already spreading when Egyptian authorities confirmed a drone had hit two gas ships at Damietta on July 29. The first ship struck was the Energos Winter, a US-owned floating gas storage and regasification unit moored at the Mediterranean port. The blaze spread to the GasLog Salem, an LNG ship docked nearby.

All crew were evacuated before the fire reached dangerous levels. No casualties were reported.

Egypt's government confirmed the attack was caused by a drone. Multiple outlets described the strike as the first on Egyptian soil since a broader regional conflict began in 2026. No group claimed responsibility.

Damietta sits on Egypt's northern coast, close to the Suez Canal's Mediterranean approach.
