This former lock structure protected Carolinensiel harbor from North Sea storm surges. It historically served as the seaward boundary for the Sielhafen.

Die Friedrichsschleuse ist eine ehemalige Sielschleuse an der Harle in Ostfriesland. Sie schützte als Sperrwerk den Hafen von Carolinensiel vor Sturmflut aus der Nordsee. An der Stelle entstand mit der Zeit der Ort Friedrichsschleuse, der heute auf halber Strecke zum Fährhafen Harlesiel liegt und lange Zeit den seeseitigen Abschluss des Sielhafens von Carolinensiel bildete. Seit der Gemeindereform 1972 gehören alle drei Orte zur Kreisstadt Wittmund.
