Winnipegosis Lighthouse

The Winnipegosis Lighthouse was built in 1915 as a square pyramidal wood tower standing 8 meters tall, originally painted white with red trim. It is located near the mouth of the Mossey River, close to the southwestern corner of Lake Winnipegosis and the village of the same name. This structure guided vessels approaching the village, supporting local fishing and logging. After many years of service, the lighthouse became inactive and is now critically endangered. The tower itself is closed to visitors, though the site remains accessible.

Why it matters: This lighthouse marked the entrance to the Mossey River, a critical waterway for trade and transport, and was essential for guiding commercial and fishing vessels into the village of Winnipegosis.
