About Allan's Island Lighthouse
Also known as: Allan's Island (Lamaline)
The Allan's Island Lighthouse, first lit in 1880, now operates from a 2004-built 11-meter square tower. The structure, which has a gray metallic lantern and gallery, is painted white with red trim. It displays a white flash every 4 seconds (Fl W 4s) and has a focal height of 19.5 meters, providing a geographic range of 13 nautical miles. The current tower replaced earlier lights, including a wood pepperpot structure from 1880, wood range lights from 1927, and a 1953 square pyramidal tower. The site is accessible, but the tower is not. The lighthouse is located on the southeastern tip of Allan's Island, near Lamaline.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marks the entrance to the Lamaline harbor and serves as a reference point for ships navigating the coastal area southeast of Allan's Island.
