About Wando Hang Lighthouse
Also known as: Wando Hang (West Breakwater)
A red, cylindrical concrete tower stands 15 meters tall at the end of Wando harbor's main breakwater. Its exterior features round concrete construction with square panels arranged to create a heliacal effect. This structure, standing 19 meters above sea level, emits a red light with one flash every 6 seconds. The lighthouse, operational and visible for 12.9 nautical miles, was enhanced in 2009 with rotating panels and music. The site is accessible to the public, though entry into the tower is restricted.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is essential for mariners navigating into Wando harbor, clearly marking the breakwater's terminus. Its unique visual and auditory features added in 2009 also distinguish it as a local attraction.
