About Wallace Harbour Sector Lighthouse
Also known as: Wallace Harbour Sector (Wallace Harbor Range Front)
This square pyramidal wood tower, standing 8.5 meters tall, was first lit in 1904 on the east side of Wallace Harbour. It features white paint with horizontal red bands on the water side. The tower is topped by a rectangular wood lantern house. In 1990, the lighthouse was converted to a sector light, changing its operational function. The structure’s focal height reaches 12.5 meters, providing a geographic range of 11.2 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, but the tower remains closed.
Why it matters: The Wallace Harbour Sector light is essential for guiding vessels through the narrow channel into the harbor, with its sector light providing precise directional guidance. Its acquisition and upkeep by the Wallace Area Development Association highlight its significance as a community landmark.
