About Værøy Lighthouse
The Værøy Lighthouse, built of stone, was first lit in 1880. It features a white, cylindrical stone tower that stands 15 meters high and rises from a 1-1/2 story stone keeper's house. The lighthouse is situated on the east side of the entrance to the harbor of Sørland, serving the nearby Værøy community. A fire in 2007 gutted the interior, leading to its deactivation that same year. Following exterior restoration by Kystverket, a local group completed interior renovations by 2019. The site is now open to the public, offering overnight accommodations, though the tower itself remains closed.
