About Ænes Lighthouse
The Ænes Lighthouse is a 6-meter tall square tower topped with a lantern and gallery. It stands 12 meters above sea level on a headland at the eastern entrance to Norway's Maurangfjord, where the waterway is also known as the Sildafjord. This black tower emits a light with two white, red, or green flashes every 8 seconds, visible for 11 nautical miles. Its light characteristic changes depending on the direction, providing specific guidance to mariners navigating the fjord. The lighthouse is located near Kvinnherad in the Vestland region.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is important for guiding vessels into and out of the Maurangfjord. Its directional light warns ships away from the headland, aiding safe passage through the narrow fjord waters.
