A square skeletal metal tower, 7 meters tall and painted white, once stood at the north end of the Nærøysund. It was situated near the western end of Gjerdinga island, guiding vessels entering from the open sea. The structure, which included a lantern and gallery, was covered with siding. Its light emitted a white flash and was visible for 6 nautical miles, with the focal plane at 10 meters. This aid to navigation was removed, confirmed by 2020 satellite imagery.
Why it matters: This lighthouse guided ships through the Nærøysund, assisting vessels approaching its northern entrance from the open sea.
