The Vestre Jakobselv lighthouse is a 6-meter-tall square skeletal tower made of steel, topped with a lantern and gallery. It is painted white with a red lantern roof and black skeletal legs. Originally situated at the base of the mole in Vestre Jakobselv inlet, approximately 20 kilometers west of Vadsø, it served mariners navigating this part of the Varangerfjord. The lighthouse ceased operations in 2014 and was replaced by a post light. The structure was then relocated to the base of the mole. Visitors can access the site, but the tower itself is closed to the public.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was important for local mariners entering the Vestre Jakobselv inlet. Its relocation rather than demolition reflects a trend in preserving navigational aids.
