About Uttorgflesa Lighthouse
Uttorgflesa is a skeletal tower built in 1955 on a low reef situated 3.5 kilometers north of the Blåbakflu light. The 13-meter-tall structure consists of a lantern and gallery supported by four concrete piles, adjacent to the stone foundation of the original 1910 lighthouse. This earlier station featured a two-story wood keeper's house with an integrated light tower. The historic lighthouse was sold and removed in 1955, making way for the current edifice. Although the light was deactivated in 2014, the site is accessible by boat, with the tower remaining closed to the public.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's unique structural transition from an integrated dwelling and tower to a modern pile-supported lantern illustrates evolving design and operational needs in the 20th century.
