About Urdviksholmen Lighthouse
Also known as: Urdviksholmen (Orsvikholmen)
Urdviksholmen lighthouse is a 6.5-meter lantern structure mounted on a pile-supported platform. Painted white with a red roof, it stands on a skerry approximately 2 kilometers southwest of Sandvika on Frøya's west coast. The light emits three white, green, or red flashes every 12 seconds. Its focal height matches the tower height. This operational lighthouse, located about 3.5 kilometers by sea from Nordskaget, is accessible by boat, though the tower itself is closed to the public.
Why it matters: The lighthouse guides local fishing fleets and coastal traffic through the complex network of skerries and channels off Frøya's west coast. Its multi-directional light assists mariners in pinpointing their position relative to numerous small islands and submerged hazards.
