About Tuzla Lighthouse
Also known as: Tuzla (Capul Tuzla)
Constructed in 1900, Tuzla Lighthouse is Romania's oldest active lighthouse. The square pyramidal skeletal tower, built from cast iron, stands 44 meters tall and is painted with black and white horizontal bands. Its lantern emits a white flash every 9.7 seconds, visible for over 20 nautical miles. The lighthouse was prefabricated in France and assembled on site. It is situated on Capul Tuzla, about 4 km southeast of Eforie Sud, along the Black Sea coast.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marks Capul Tuzla, a significant navigational point on the Romanian Black Sea coast. Its prefabricated cast iron skeletal design also represents an important chapter in the region's maritime engineering history.
