Tungenes Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Tungenes Lighthouse
Tungenes Lighthouse, built in 1828, is a white, square cylindrical tower standing 12 meters high. It rises from the seaward side of a 1-1/2 story keeper's house. The station is situated at the end of Tungenesveien on the west side of Randaberg, marking the south side of the entrance to Stavanger harbor. Although it ceased operations in 1984, having been replaced by the offshore Bragen light, the entire station has been restored to its 1930s appearance. It now functions as a fine arts center and maritime museum.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was essential for guiding vessels entering Stavanger harbor, warning them of the cape at its southern approach. Its unique design and current role as a cultural center preserve local maritime heritage.
