About Trenton Range Front Lighthouse
Also known as: Trenton Range Front (Stonehouse Point)
A square pyramidal wood tower standing 4.5 meters tall, the Trenton Range Front light was built in 1962. It was originally painted white with a red vertical stripe on the range line to assist with navigation. Situated at Stonehouse Point, it marked the southern entrance to Trenton Harbour from the East River estuary, approximately 15 km southeast of Pictou. The light became inactive in 2018, and its lantern has since been removed. The tower, originally constructed as part of a range light system for the harbour, was later repainted a dark blue color.
Why it matters: This range front light provided precise alignment for mariners navigating the East River estuary into Trenton Harbour.
