About Tranekær Lighthouse
Built in 1858, Tranekær Lighthouse is a square masonry tower standing 13 meters tall. It is attached to a 2-1/2 story keeper's house. The tower is painted white with dark gray trim, and its lantern dome is red. This structure is located on the east coast of Langeland, at the end of Bukkeskovvej, approximately 4 kilometers east of Tranekær village. Its operational life concluded in 1977, after which it was sold and converted into a private residence. The nearest port is Spodsbjerg Havn, 3.7 kilometers away.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's square masonry tower represents a significant architectural style for Danish coastal markers of its era. Its placement on Langeland's east coast was important for guiding shipping in the Great Belt.
