About Tomahawk Island Lighthouse
Built in 1901, the Tomahawk Island Lighthouse is a square, pyramidal wooden tower standing 10 meters tall. It was originally situated on a small island southeast of Bigsby Island in Lake of the Woods. The structure is painted white with red trim, including a red lantern roof. For over six decades, it guided mariners with a green light, flashing once every 4 seconds. The lighthouse ceased operations in 1963 and was then sold to private owners. It was subsequently relocated to Morson, near ON 11, where it remains today.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was relocated to Morson and now serves as a museum, preserving a connection to the region's maritime history and the navigational challenges of Lake of the Woods.
