Toftøy Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Toftøy Lighthouse
A cylindrical fiberglass tower 5.5 meters tall stands on the southern tip of Toftøy island, facing an open section of the Boknafjord. Its lantern and gallery are positioned 12.5 meters above sea level. The light emits three occulting white, red, or green flashes every 10 seconds, visible for 11.2 nautical miles. This modern structure replaced an older, square wooden tower. The site is accessible by boat, and while the surrounding area is open to visitors, the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse provides critical guidance for vessels navigating the Boknafjord, warning them of the island's southern tip. Its multi-directional light offers specific warnings depending on the direction of approach.
