About Thyborøn Bagfyr Lighthouse
Also known as: Thyborøn Bagfyr (relocated to Kongsdal Havn)
This cylindrical cast iron tower, standing 17 meters tall, was built in 1908. It features red and white horizontal bands and was originally situated at the western entrance to the Limfjord. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1988 and subsequently rescued and restored in 2000. It now stands on the south side of the Mariager Fjord, near Assens, within a parking lot at Kongsdal Marina. The site is accessible to the public, though the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's importance lies in its preservation as a link to Denmark's maritime history, specifically its past role in guiding ships through the Limfjord. Its rescue and relocation highlight community efforts to conserve historical structures.
