About Svartviknæringen Lighthouse
This 11-meter cylindrical fiberglass tower, standing at a focal height of 22 meters, is painted white with two narrow black horizontal bands. It features a red lantern roof and emits a white, red, or green light. The current structure, operational since its installation, replaced a former square skeletal tower. Situated on a steep promontory at the northeastern tip of Hjelmsøy near Måsøy, its light has a geographic range of 13.6 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed to visitors.
Why it matters: The sector light is critical for guiding ships safely around the hazardous northeastern tip of Hjelmsøy, helping vessels navigate specific channels and avoid dangers in these challenging northern waters.
