Suchido Lighthouse

The Suchido Lighthouse is a cylindrical, white concrete tower standing 11 meters tall, with its light positioned 14 meters above sea level. It was built and first lit in 2010 on the southern tip of Suchido, an island located in the passage between Bigeum and Anjwa. This location is part of South Korea's South Jeolla region. The lighthouse emits a single white flash every 6 seconds, visible for 11.6 nautical miles. It stands opposite the Mado Light in the Docho District, assisting vessels navigating the numerous islands and narrow waterways characteristic of the area. The nearest major port, Mokpo, is 18 kilometers away.

Why it matters: This lighthouse is important for safe passage through the narrow and island-dotted waters between Bigeum and Anjwa, a key route for local maritime traffic. It operates in coordination with the Mado Light, providing a unified navigational aid.
